The Best! Homemade Bread Rolls

 

1 1/4 cups lukewarm water ( must not be too hot or will kill the yeast )

2 tablespoons dried yeast

1/4 cup sugar

3 1/2 cups plain flour

1 egg

1 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup olive oil

2 tablespoons bread impover ( this is sold in almost every supermarket these days near the flour and is the key to soft bread )

 

Step 1

 

Add the lukewarm water to a mixing bowl with the sugar and yeast. Allow to sit for 10 minutes.

The yeast should be foaming and bubbling a little.

 

Step 2

Now add the rest of the ingredients. Using the dough hook mix for 5 minutes. Of course you could do this by hand if you wish. You may need to add extra flour if the dough is sticking to the bowl,

keep doing so until the dough stops sticking.

Once you have a nice smooth dough.

Oil bowl, place dough in bowl cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise for 2 hours.

 

Step 3

Cut dough into 12 pieces, roll into rounds then place into a baking dish lined with baking paper. Make sure the rolls are just touching that way you will end up with pull apart rolls. Sprinkle a little salt over the rolls then cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise for 2 hours.

 

Step 4

Bun glaze

2 tablespoons full cream milk

2 tablespoons thickened cream

You will need a few tablespoons full cream milk or half and half cream and milk to glaze the buns. Have this ready to go with a pastry brush.

 

Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

 

After 2 hours rising time and a well preheated oven.

Remove plastic wrap from rolls and place in hot oven for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes carefully brush the Rolls with the half and half milk/cream glaze then return to the oven to bake for another 10-15 minutes or until the top is golden.

Allow rolls to cool in baking dish for 15 minutes before serving warm with lashings of butter
